Blog Posts About Tahnee!
I met today with Tahnee Woolf of Speak Your Vision. We had first met at a women’s networking lunch a few months back and kept in touch. Tahnee is one such woman. She has already lived a life women several decades older than her, would be pleased to look back on. She’s fought battles and won, and in the process, grounded herself in a space where she can give to others, and does. In the process she will make an enormous difference in people’s lives. Tahnee is very passionate about what she does. She is already making a difference in a number of women’s lives, giving them the voice to speak about what they believe in, without hesitation and from the heart – and I believe she plans to do the same for men too soon.
I found my interview with Tahnee Woolf fascinating. As she was guiding me through some simple awareness exercises, it only highlighted to me how unaware I am at times of the temple I am ‘living’ in. When she was describing the effect of her techniques and teachings – freedom, ease, grace, emotional neutrality when needed and balance – not only did I get a sense of longing but also a sense of remembrance. Somewhere in the cellular memory of my body a stirring occurred. ’Remember Nat’, it whispered ‘when we moved like that, before bad habits, thoughts and patterns warped our way?’ Tahnee talks about ‘undoing’ these things and bringing us back to an effective state that is perfect for our individual bodies. And most interestingly Tahnee tantalized me with the notion of being fully embodied, not only moving in a state of grace but expressing in this state also. This was so much more than body awareness and yet all about body awareness.

I have been working with Tahnee in weekly one-on-one Feldenkrais sessions that, along with a lot of hard work at home, have literally changed my life. I attribute all of my progress in the past year to learning about my body as a connected whole and exploring those connectionsFeldenkrais lifted the curtain off healing abilities that I didn’t even know I had. Tahnee Woolf has guided me from shattered, hopeless patient to empowered human being. There is nothing mystical or religious about Feldenkrais – it’s not called FeldenChrist – it’s a therapy developed by a man named Moshe Feldenkrais. It’s a physical therapy that embraces the undeniable mind/body connection. Feldenkrais helps to teach the brain comfortable patterns of movement and can be so unexpectedly effective as to give noticeable relief of pain and stiffness in a single session; relief that can be prolonged through repetition and dedication. I now have a weapon with which to dull my own flares, without medication – a situation that I once believed impossible.

It’s been nearly two weeks since I attended my first Feldenkrais workshop with Tahnee Woolf. You can check out her website and subscribe to her newsletter here. I cannot praise that day enough. The day long work shop that I attended was focused at relieving lower back pain and included several practical components, broken up with some education about chronic pain and the Feldenkrais method. Even though my body is super sensitive to just about everything, I was able to participate in all of the activities of the day, just as long as I kept my movements small and didn’t push myself into any sort of pain. Tahnee’s program included a lot of education regarding pain management that was both interesting and inspiring. Experiences that she was able to share from her own journey out of chronic pain helped me to believe that I, too, could make dramatic changes in my condition by committing fully to my recovery and not waiting for a magical doctor to save me.
